The Art & Science of Math Education

Sparking a critical conversation about the social impact and cognitive science of math education

WHO IS INVITED: Educators, school administrators, researchers & policy-makers

WHERE: Carleton University, Ottawa, Ontario (see Registration for details)

WHEN: Saturday, November 26th, 2016

With an agenda designed to spur conversation, challenge status-quo thinking, and enable participants to share ideas across disciplinary boundaries, this conference will expose participants to a range of expertise across the themes of math and cognitive science, change management, Indigenous education, and social justice. This discussion is timely and increasingly relevant, considering Canada’s declining scores in international numeracy rankings and the link between numeracy and long-term individual and national socio-economic success.

The Art & Science of Math Education will provide a space for educators, administrators, policy-makers, and researchers to share best practices and build advanced knowledge of the latest critical issues in math education. Co-hosted by the Community Foundation of Ottawa, Carleton University, Algonquin College, the University of Ottawa, and JUMP Math, this event will galvanize a conversation about the most effective, evidence-based methods for strengthening numeracy in Canada.
